True delightful mini from Madagascar. Extremely temp and light tolerant. Spring bloomers with long lasting white flowers. Lovely fragrance at night. Native to the Comoro Islands at lower elevations. Seagrove Orchids grows this orchid on the north wall in heavy shade. Warm temperatures are also provided for strong fast growth. Easy to grow. 4 inch pot is flowering size

Angraecum pseudofilicornu

Terete leafed Angraecum species native to Madagascar. The stems carry the terete leaves in a rosemary like fashion. Stems become long and pendant with their own weight. Offerings are not small. These are bloom sized 5 inch plus in length size plants potted in plastic mesh baskets. Warm growers, Easily converted to mount culture. Long lasting blooms are white with a long peach to copper colored spur. Rewarding These can bloom at a very small size. Produced from seed.

Bulbophyllum ambrosia

Wonderful looking plants that produce tons of gorgeous blooms. Blooms are wonderfully sweet smelling unlike most of the Bulbophyllum group. Native to China Hong Kong and Vietnam in evergreen and semi deciduous forest on limestone cliffs and mossy rocks. Found at elevation from 300 to 1300 meters as a small sized hot to cool growing orchid. Easy to grow. Blooms are best described as pale banana yellow with soft pink with raspberry red stripes and suffusions. Psuedobulbs can vary in color from dark orange to dark maroon. Really beautiful!

Bulbophyllum falcatum (green type)

Warm growing orchid of interest. One of the Bulbophyllums that present Spear type bloom (rachis). The rachis on this variety is green. Flowers are borne down both sides of the flattened rachis in perfect arrangement. Provide even moisture year round. Easy with medium light and even moisture. Beautiful miniature from Africa. This is a candidate for orchidarium or terrarium culture. Second photos shows rachis formation.

Bulbophyllum falcatum (red type)

Warm growing orchid of interest. One of the Bulbophyllums that present Spear type bloom (rachis). The rachis on this variety is red. This is a candidate for orchidarium or terrarium culture.

Bulbophyllum graveolens (Cirrhopetalum) (The Robust Cirrhopetalum)

Stunning blooms yellow orange blooms held on sturdy upright stems. Plants do get large and heavy clay pots are recommended once plants become larger. Grow in warm/hot temperatures in medium shade for best growth and flowering. Provide year round moisture. Plants are easily adapted to mounted culture with frequent waterings. Native to the rainforests of New Guinea and Papua. Synonym Bulbophyllum pachybulbum.

Native to Borneo occurring at low to mid range elevations. Grow warm to cool with year round even moisture and light air movement. Allow to dry slightly between waterings. Purplish blooms are held in mop head fashion on pendent flower stems. Colors range from light pink to sanguinea. Long lasting. As always, spiking or budded plants are chosen first for our customers.

Bulbophyllum lilacinum 'Brower Mill'

Prolific Fall bloomer. Easy to grow potted or as a mount. Yellow to orange blooms spiral on lilac like inflorescences. Blooms typically last 30 days or more. Provide bright light and even moisture for best results. I have searched various resources and this plant was acquired with Bulb. lilacinum label. It has flower stems exactly like Bulb lilacinum, flower arrangement, and size. (Ken Karb collection) Since Bulb lilacinum occurs with an albescens color form, I am hoping that a botanist will chime in with the fact that Bulb lilacinum has an aurea color variant.

Bulbophyllum phalaenopsis

Orchid species native to New Guinea. This orchid species is the largest of all Bulbophyllum. Grow warm with year round moisture. Bloom coloration varies according to culture and parents. Blooms can be a red to copper tone. The true stinky Bulbophyllum. Common name: The Phalaenopsis gigantea-like Bulbophyllum. If you guessed this Bublophyllum has leaves that remind some orchid growers of Phalaenopsis leaves, you guessed correctly.

Bulbophyllum maquilingense

Easy to grow mini-miniature orchid species found only in the Philippines. Grow warm to hot with amble warm year round. Grow in shade to bright. Pseudobulbs approximately 1/2 tall, leaves paddle shaped, rigid, and approximately 1 1/2 inch in height. Blooms are held on upright thread like stems in the spring. Blooms yellow with varying degrees of red spotting. Lip coloration dark purple. Appropriate for terrarium/vivarium culture.

Bulbophyllum sikkimense (Cirrhopetalum sikkimense)

Native to India. This petite growing Bulbophyllum is sure to become one of your favorites. Herbarium candidate as well as perfect for windowsill growers with space concerns. This near miniature orchid grows well behaved and manageable in pot or basket. Easily converted to mounted culture with frequent waterings. Provide light shade, a warm growing condition,and a moderate supply of water. Easy to grow and very rewarding orchid species. No foul odor detected. Blooms are a golden yellow to soft pink held in a umbrel fashion. Dorsal sepal and petals are striped in dark crimson. The flower stems are even decorated in crimson.

Bulbophyllum Stella Mizuta (Bulbophyllum lobbii x macranthum) 'Brower Mill'

This is the perfect combination of both Bulbophyllum species. Easy to grow with year round moisture, medium light levels, and warm temps. Multiple growth plants that ramble and creep in pots. Hairy roots have interest in themselves. Flowers are presented nicely above foliage. A Bulbophyllum with No foul odor. Established divisions are offered with well over 5 growths each. Bulbophyllum tingabarium

An easy growing floriferous miniature. Pseudobulbs are ribbed and petite. Blooms vary from deep carrot orange to a pale golden yellow and are displayed in a fantastic umbrel. All produced from same seed pod. Native to Laos Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia. Grow warm to hot. Light variable from bright to medium light levels. Primary bloom season is Fall and Winter although this miniature orchid has been blooming twice a year in our warm greenhouses. Appropriate for terrarium/vivarium culture.This orchid species does not have a foul odor like some Bulbophyllum / Cirrhopetalum. Cymbidium Hanalei (aloifolium x finlaysonianum)

Beefy plants with the same upright foliage of Cym. aloifolium but not as tall. This primary hybrid orchid presents blooms in pendent fashion cascading over the pot edge. Fragrant long lasting blooms. Pendant blooming warmth loving Cymbidium.

Cycnodes chlorochilon 'Giant Swan'

The swan orchid native to southeastern Panama and Costa Rica grows warm. Follow culture tips for Catasetum culture with a sharp decline in watering once blooms/leaves fall off your plant. Decrease water till new growth and roots emerge from previously bloomed growth. Thrives in medium light levels while actively growing with constant moisture. Gorgeous green blooms/cream to white lip with a darker jade green eye centrally forming the callus. Large blooms up to 5 inches across. Goes semi deciduous with leaves typically falling from previously bloomed growth. Sweetly scented of Jasmine. Delicious

Cynorkis fastigiata (Cynorchis syn.)

A delightful terrestrial offering. Large tubers are produced underground on this successively blooming orchid. Keep evenly moist while growing. Found in Madagascar on forest edges as well as among rocks and grasslands. Plants die back in the fall after flowering so reduce water while foliage is not present. Super easy to grow. Bloom color best described as soft yellow with plum suffusion centrally and on sepals. Super interesting. Multiple fan plants offered. Multiple plants in pots.

Dendrobium Akaishi (victoria-reginae X braceteosum v alba)

A delightful hybrid using the beautiful Den victoria-regina x the multiple cluster blooming Den bracteosum. Blooms should vary in shades of royal purple to soft white with coerulean or pink markings. Variations will occur since these are produced from seed. Grow in mostly shade. These are grown in the north side of Seagrove Orchids warm growing greenhouse. Provide moisture when leaves are growing, allow to dry more when plant go into a deciduous stage. Photos show examples of parents orchids.

Dendrobium Blue Seas (Den Blue Twinkle x Den antennatum)

Allure is found in the sweetly scented. long lasting beautiful colored blossoms that can be produced two times per year. Considered an antelope orchid with twisted petal and sepal flower parts. Provide bright shade with roots wet to almost dry prior to watering. Photo to come.

Dendrobium chrysopterum (The Golden Winged Orchid)

Warm grower from eastern New Guinea. Super easy to grow potted or mounted. Free flowering throughout the year. Provide the slim semi deciduous growths year round moisture. Considered intermediate temperatures. Seagrove Orchids in North Carolina grows this orchid species in light shade with temperatures from 62 F to 90 F.

Dendrobium faciferum

The broomstick type Dendrobium. Blooms are borne atop the swollen base growths on sturdy growths. Clusters and whirls of blooms adorn the top of the flower stems. Easy to grow and flower with dry between waterings and plenty of water during the hotter summer months. Native to low elevations in Indonesia so they are heat loving plants. Do not remove old growths/canes as these are the ones that will provide you with beautiful blooms. These are potted in 4 inch plastic baskets. I water these with the Vandaceous orchids hanging a little lower in light levels. Blooms are tangerine to cantaloupe orange in color. Bloom size mature plants are offered. Delightful! Dendrobium Hibiki

Bright magenta blooms are produced two times a year on this exciting hybrid of (bracteosum x laevifolium.) Blooms are very long lasting. The leaves are another attractive feature in this orchid hybrid as they can have a purple cast when provided brighter light levels. Prefers drying more between waterings, Easy and rewarding. Petite growth habit makes this orchid a good candidate for windowsill or those wishing to save a little greenhouse space.

Dendrobium Little Norman (Den Little Atro x Den. normanbyense)

Perfect fit for someone who loves the latouria Dendrobiums but doesn't have much space. Blooms produced are as large as many of the larger growing Latouria hybrids. Blooms are soft cream to mint green with raspberry red lips. A very striking color combination and of course with bold speckling on flower segment reverse. Fragrant . Easy to grow with bright shade and frequent watering. Water thoroughly and allow to become slightly moist prior to next watering. Blooms last for months. Super cute. Bloom season variable. Dendrobium Love Memory 'Fizz' (Den White Rabbit x Den Sachi) Seagrove Orchids

A true power pleasing Dendrobium. Blooms abound with this type display in Fall and Early spring. Lovely plants. Fragrant blooms are crisp white with soft pink petal and sepal margins, the lip interior is highlighted with darker near cranberry red coloration. Canes upright around 14 inches tall. Prefers bright shade for good upright cane growth and strength, wet to nearly moist watering schedule, and temps from 50 to 90 degrees. We do not find this orchid needing a dry winter rest period as others have reported on culture. Leaves do go deciduous on older cans, but do not remove old canes for blooms can occur for years old older growth canes. Delicious fragrant orchid. Bloom photograph represents blooms and coloration. This Dendrobium orchid is native to lowland peninsular Malaysia. Grow hot to warm. Wispy grasslike leaves. Broom stick growth habit with swollen bases of growths. Blooms are soft canary yellow. Bloom season is fall to spring. Prolific easy to grower . Basket, pot, or mounted culture. These are established keikes from the original CCM AOS awarded plant. Dendrobium hekouense

Impressive sized blooms on a miniature species from Yunnan China. The long lasting qualities of blooms give this orchid species an added appeal. Very temperature tolerant. Grows well in the North Carolina hot summer. Provide partial shade and allow to dry between waterings. Photo shows one of our mounted specimens and our current offerings in pots. Dendrobium Sherry Abe (Den Peter Shen x spectabile)

Wow! So much color from a Den spectabile hybrid. These plants are very limited in the greenhouse. Be the first to bloom one of these. Long lasting blooms can range in color from magenta to this glowing red like the one blooming in my greenhouse. Currently growing in 4 inch pots with open mix, water thoroughly and allow to just become moist prior to next watering, grow in bright shade.

Dendrobium speciosum

Australian native that can be found growing on rocks or trees. This orchid species is sometimes called the rock orchid or the cane orchid. Pleasantly fragrant blooms produced in the spring season vary in color from soft cream to golden yellow. Sturdy plants that are good growers. 4 inch pot size is about 1 year from flowering size. As plants mature, bloom quantity can greatly increase and multiple stems can occur. Easy. Common Name; The Outstanding Orchid. Provide a drier winter rest with no fertilizer.

Dendrobium spectabile

The curly goblin orchid. Bizarre curled funky flowers arise above the foliage on this New Guinea species orchid. Blooms have been referred to as bewitching. Some call it the 'Alien Orchid' but the taxonomic common Name is 'The Grand Dendrobium.' Grow Warm and Bright. Plants grow large. Provide somewhat drier winter, but not a dry rest period, just decrease watering frequency. Repot only when in active root growth. Seed produced. Large 4 inch plants are offered. Ready for 6 inch pots. Pleasingly Fragrant. Choice Collector Orchid.

Dendrobium spectabile aureum

Proven to be just a vigorous growing as the normal color form. 4 inch pot size is bloom size. Decrease winter waterings, but do not provide a dry winter rest. Seed produced beautiful plants. Blooms are some of the most unusual orchid blooms in the world. Found in New Guinea and the Solomon islands. Pleasingly Fragrant and a must have for any orchid collector.

Maxillaria tenuifolia 'Yamada' AM/AOS

The golden yellow coconut orchid. Want an easy to grow orchid that reminds you of a day at the beach. This orchid smells like coconut oil. Spiky growth habit is held upright atop oval shaped pseudobulbs. Prefers drier winters and good moisture during warmer seasons. This spring blooming orchid species produces yellow blooms whereas the typical color form is copper/red. Native to Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica. Max. tenuifolia is easy to grow and quite forgiving of wide range of growing conditions. Grow relatively bright as for Cattleya or future bloomings may not occur. Easily grown in pot or mounted. Mediocalcar decoratum

The Charming Mediocalcar native to New Guinea. Creeping miniature that produces beautiful bell shaped blooms edged with yellow points that remind me of a clown collar. Some say this is the candy corn orchid. Prefers lower light levels. The sausage like growth and leaves will show reddish pigmentation with higher light levels. These are grown on the north wall of our Seagrove greenhouses. Easy to grow with moisture to root systems and rewarding. Perfect for terrarium and vivariums. Primary bloom season fall until spring. Offered in 2 inch mesh pots for ease of care.

Neofinetia falcata (Vanda falcata)

Choice variety of the recently reclassified Neofinetia falcata. These blooms are not faintly tinted with pin, these are bold with pink/purple and with the nectary softly hued pink. Photo shows size of plants offered and blooming size. 'The Japanese Wind Orchid' stays relatively small and can be easily grown in a variety of grower settings, even windowsill. Prefers year round moisture with a bloom season of primarily Spring. Fragrant blooms can occur several times during the Spring and early Fall. Also known as the 'Samurai Orchid' because of it's long nectary sometimes referred to as the samurai sword. Very easy to grow and bloom. Plants produce basal fans and can become magnificent specimens with hundreds of fragrant blossoms occurring. Grown in 2 inch mesh pots for quick drainage inside an additional pot. . Our plants are easily converted to pot culture or baskets.

Oeceoclades monophylla (Monk Orchid)

Miniature orchids with leaves around 1.5 inches long. Leaves highly decorated in copper/orange with green banding. Found in Mauritius and Reunion. Pink shaded bloom clusters are large for the size of the plant and are held nicely upright above foliage. Grow this orchid species warm,shady, with even moisture year round.

Oeoniella polystachys (Angraecum polystachys)

Another Madagascar, Comoros and surrounding island Angraecoid species. Grow warm, provide thorough waterings, allow to become slightly moist prior to next watering. Medium light levels as for Phalaenopsis provide excellent light needs. Free flowering throughout the seasons. Blooms are night time fragrant of Lilly of the Valley. Each 1 1/2 to 2 2/Wow! An orchid that is easily grown under lights. Common Name: The Richly-Blooming Oeoniella.

Native to Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, and Venezuela. (The National flower of Panama) The Dove Orchid gets its common name from the dove shape inside each bloom. Blooms are best described as creamy white with a heavy texture. Long lasting blooms are produced on upright stems with sequential blooming habit. Lip parts reveal and dove with raspberry red speckles on the dove petals. Other common names include the Holy Ghost Orchid and the Flower of the Holy Spirit. Summer bloom production. Fragrant blooms smell spicy and appealing. Grow moist and warm to hot. Grow under Phalaenopsis light conditions as leaves are susceptible to sunburn in bright light conditions. Easy to grow. Blooms very similar to the Psychopsis Mendenhall but wider petal segments. Plants are not highly decorated foliage. Plants show extra nice vigor in my warm growing North Carolina heat. Flower stems produced upright with vivid orange and yellow blooms dancing above foliage. Blooms are formed sequentially so do not remove old flower stems. Each stem can produce blooms for years.. Easy to grow with bright shade and allowing these orchids to just dry prior to watering again. I grow these on the Phalaenopsis bench for watering and light culture comparison. Psychopsis Mendenhall 'Hildos' FCC/AOS Bloom Size

Easy to grow Butterfly Orchid. Beautiful decorated foliage shows a mottled pattern that presents best when plants are grown in bright shade. Sturdy stems are produced annually. Each stem holds the magnificent Butterfly orchid. The flower interestingly presents with flower parts that resemble butterfly antennae. Blooms last around one month and are followed sequentially by the next flowers. One by one the flower stem produces blooms one after the other. Do not remove old flower stems as they can produce blooms every year making a spectacular display of multiple floating butterflies. Keep tight in pot and provide long lasting medium. Psychopsis do not prefer annual repotting.

Stenorrhynchos speciosum

Easy to grow species with upright plumes of glowing red flowers. Since it is found in nature growing as a terrestrial it makes an easy growing addition to any orchid collection. Perfect for beginner grower to seasoned grower that needs one more orchid species. We grow this orchid species in potting soil amended with rocks or spaghnum moss. Provide bright shade and even moisture for best culture. Foliage is a plus since foliage is speckled in white spots making a pleasing display orchid when not in flower. The more shade you provide the more pronounced spotting appears. Many are making central bloom stems now. Species orchid, grow moist, bright shade, fall/winter bloomer.

The vining orchid. Yes this is the orchid that vanilla flavoring is produced. The seed pods are harvested and put through a time taking process for the vanilla flavoring we use in the USA in cooking. Easily grown as mount or on a trellis. Not bloom size. Seagrove Orchids is known for their culture and has many American Orchid Society awards for such. Plants offered are expertly grown. Non- orchids

 

It has come to my attention that some of you would like to grow your own beautiful Spanish moss for your grow area and use in your orchid displays. My moss is grown here in our greenhouses and blooms a lightly scented chartreuse bloom throughout the year. It is clean and free of pests. Very important, clean and free of pests. I offer long strands so you may hang your new moss immediately. It is not truly a moss, but a Bromeliad native to the southern United States, Central and South America, along with some parts of the Caribbean. Upon arrival, please give your new moss and thorough drench and begin watering as you would your mounted orchid collection. Saturate two -three times a week will keep your new moss happy and growing vigorously. $25

 

Lemon button (Nephrolepis cordifolia) The lemon button fern is a dwarf variety of the popular Boston fern. You must have noticed Boston Fern in hanging baskets on ones front porch during the summer months. The lemon button fern reaches heights of 1 foot and goes by many names including button sword fern, erect sword fern, little-leaved sword fern, and fishbone fern. This compact fern is known for being resilient and less finicky than some of its relatives, and its small size makes it perfect for growing indoors. An added attraction is the small leaves of the lemon button fern give off a faint lemony scent during the spring and summer months, making it a refreshing addition to any home. Bright filtered light is preferred. These little ferns make perfect additions to animal terrariums or vivariums. The leaves are nontoxic to pets and humans.
